Planning a wedding?

Deciding on where you are going to say ‘I do’ can be a big decision. Here are the top five things to think about when narrowing down the list of venues to consider:

1. Your guest list

Weddings can vary from intimate elopements to over-the-top extravaganzas. Ultimately the size of your venue is determined by the size of your guest list. While that seems pretty obvious, it’s important to consider early on rather than having your heart set on a particular venue that will simply be too small - unless you’re prepared to wipe some distant cousins from the guest list (sorry aunt Mabel).

2. Indoors, outdoors or a little bit of both?

Are you picturing dancing the night away under the stars, or is a solid roof over your head more your style? Perhaps you’d like an outdoor ceremony and pre-dinner drinks followed by an indoor reception once the sun goes down. There are many ways you can choose to structure your day, but our one piece of advice is - have a backup plan. Our tip? If you’d rather not be governed by the (at times, moody Tasmanian) weather, stick with an indoor venue from day dot.

3. Ceremony location

If your ceremony and reception are going to be held at different locations it’s important to factor in travel time between the locations for both you and your guests and ease of transport between venues. Holding your wedding across two locations can create a certain wow factor on the day, as long as it’s pulled off seamlessly.

4. Style of reception

A long table dinner with a delicious feast style menu and florals galore. A simple cocktail reception with dainty details and canapes. A clear roof marquee with hanging florals and tables of ten. Or, a garden party with picnic rugs, cushions and casual seating. The options are endless! Once you’ve chosen your style, make sure to stick with it to make sure there’s no room for miscommunication down the track.

5. Do you love to party?

If you picture yourself dancing away well into the night, it’s worth discussing this with your venue manager and vendors early in the planning stage. Many venues will be governed by noise curfews and some suppliers, like your band or DJ for example will have standard a cut off time.
